Qualifications

Applicants for the office of notary public must meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 21 years of age
  • Be a US Citizen
  • Graduated high school or passed equivalency exam
  • Be a resident of the Virgin Islands for a minimum of 5 years
  • Legal resident of the United States
  • Not convicted of any crime within or outside of the Virgin Islands
  • Investigation by the Lieutenant Governors office

Application Procedures

Step 1: Submit your Notary Public Application and Required Documentation

U.S. Virgin Islands Notary Public Application

Your Notary Public Commission Form is to be turned in with the following documentation attached:

  • Affidavit - Fully completed, signed and notarized.
  • Criminal Record Report - This report should cover all three U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Character Reference Letters - Two letters of character reference complete with the return address and daytime contact number of the authors.
  • Proof of Citizenship with Photo - Passport, Voters Identification, Birth Certificate and Photo Identification.
  • Certificate of Good Standing from the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands - For Attorneys Only.
Step 2: Order your Notary Supplies from The Notary's Store but you will need to order your notary bond separately.

After your application has been reviewed and you have been deemed eligible for an appointment as a Notary Public, you MUST submit the Commission Fee of $100.00, payable to the Government of the Virgin Islands. A Notary Bond, with a face value of $5,000.00, must also be submitted from an insurance or bonding company authorized to do business in the Virgin Islands OR you may choose to submit a Surety Bond from two (2) resident sureties, who are owners of real property within the Virgin Islands, with a value of $10,000.00 over and above encumbrances thereon. All owners of each property must sign both the Bond and Justification of Surety. The Bond and Affidavit will go to the Superior Court for approval by the Presiding Judge.

We offer a New Notary Supply Package and a Renewing Notary Supply Package, but you will need to order your required $5,000 Notary Bond separately. US Virgin Island Notary Seal/Stamp and US Virgin Islands Notary Journal, and other needed notary supplies at a special reduced price. To order, enter the required information and scroll down through the page to locate the notary packages, or you can purchase your notary supplies separately. Follow the instructions through checkout. Once you receive your official surety bond, make a copy of the actual bond for your records.

Step 3: Receive your U.S.Virgin Islands Notary Commission

When the Bond is returned "APPROVED" by the Superior Court a Notary Public Commission will be issued, in your application name with the effective and expiration dates and your Notary Public Number (NP-NNN-YY). You will need to then submit your signed notary oath and imprint of your notary seal.
